Participation in the open movement requires data literacy<\/em>. The Mekong region is characterized by low data literacy, and not all people in the region have equal access to opportunities to build these skills.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n
The Open Development Initiative (ODI) partnered with local organizations in the region to develop context-driven data literacy training program in order for all people in the Mekong to more effectively participate in data collection, aggregation and dissemination. The program offers support to local partners of lower Mekong countries, as well as a wide audience of local stakeholders, in specific contexts such as forestry, pollution, lands, Indigenous Peoples’ land, etc. Myanmar was the first pilot country to implement the full training curriculum in 2018, and under our Indigenous Data Sovereignty (IDS) and the Voices for Mekong Forests (V4MF) programming, it has since been replicated and customized in Cambodia, Vietnam, Lao PDR, and Thailand to meet specific needs, context, and pandemic situations. <\/span><\/p>\r\n
It is an honor that our data literacy training program received the World Bank’s Digital Skills Innovation Awards 2021<\/a> in the category of long-range access solution under the Digital Development Partnership<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\r\n
