China has pledged to work closely with Thailand under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) framework to help promote the development of the Mekong Basin region. The pledge was conveyed by China’s Ambassador to Thailand, Lyu Jian, in a statement released on Sunday to mark the start of the second Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Week, which will end on March 24, as well as to commenmorate the third anniversary of the establishment of the LMC– a sub-regional cooperation mechanism launched in 2016 that counts China, Cambodia, Laos Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam as its members.

Representatives of Cambodia, Laos and Việt Nam have agreed to assign Việt Nam to devise an action plan for effectively implementing the Agreement on Trade Promotion and Facilitation in the CLV Development Triangle Area, signed in 2016 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This is one of the important contents stated in the minutes of the 12th meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee on the Cambodia-Laos-Việt Nam Development Triangle Area (JCC CLV DTA 12), just inked by the ministers of the three countries.

The Prime Minister has agreed in principle the organisation of the forum on sustainable and climate-resilient development of the Mekong Delta in October 2019. The leader has asked the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate with the Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, Planning and Investment, Finance, Construction, Transport, Home Affairs, and Information and Communications, and relevant agencies to decide on the forum’s theme and prepare for the agenda. The work must be reported to the PM in February 2019.
